# Schloss Hellbrunn — tickets, opening hours, the trick fountains, the free park with the gazebo, and the tours that get you there

> Hellbrunn Palace (Schloss Hellbrunn) is a 17th-century pleasure villa about five kilometres south of Salzburg's old town, built 1613-1615 for Prince-Archbishop Markus Sittikus. The ticketed part is the trick fountains and the palace, visited at your own pace with a mobile audio guide in about 80 minutes; the 60-hectare park with the Sound of Music gazebo is free and open from early morning to evening. ## Verified facts

The facts below come from the palace's own website (hellbrunn.at, hours and prices for the 2026 season), the city tourist board, and the five listings' own inclusion lists, checked 14 September 2026.

- Address: Fuerstenweg 37, 5020 Salzburg. Bus 25 from the main station or the old town, about 25
  minutes; the bicycle route down Hellbrunner Allee is about 5 km.
- Season 2026: trick fountains and palace open daily 28 March to 1 November, from 09:30; closing
  17:30 (late March, April, October), 18:30 (May, June, September) or 19:00 (July, August); last
  admission one hour before closing. Open in any weather.
- Park and gardens: daily 06:30 to 21:00, free, all year. The Sound of Music gazebo stands in the
  park and is locked; it is photographed from outside.
- Ticket 2026: adults 16.50 euros; children and pupils 4-18 6.50 euros; students 19-26 9.50 euros;
  family card (2 adults + 1 child) 36.50 euros, each further child 3.50 euros; groups of 20 or more
  14.50 euros per person. The ticket covers the trick fountains, the palace exhibition and the folk
  museum in the Monatsschloessl, each with a mobile audio guide.
- The trick fountains are self-guided with the audio guide (about 50 minutes; 15 languages,
  downloaded by QR code to your own phone); the palace takes about 30 minutes. Guided group tours
  are bookable separately.
- You will catch at least a few drops; the palace says you get properly wet only if you want to.
  Electronics should be protected.
- The mechanical theatre of 1750 has 163 water-driven figures; the largest fountain, the Altemps
  fountain with its star pond, is fed by a natural spring.
- Built 1613-1615 by architect Santino Solari for Markus Sittikus von Hohenems (1574-1619),
  Prince-Archbishop from 1612; a villa suburbana for day use, with no bedroom. The Stone Theatre on
  the hill was used for performances from 1617; the Monatsschloessl is said to have been built in a
  month.
- Salzburg Zoo is next door in the palace grounds (separate ticket; included on the Salzburg Card).
- Dogs are welcome on a leash (muzzle in the trick fountains). The park and the fountains are
  wheelchair accessible; the palace is not.
- Parking: 3 euros for the first two hours, 1 euro per further hour, 10 euros maximum per day.
- The Salzburg Card includes one-time entry to Hellbrunn Palace and the trick fountains plus city
  public transport; the online purchase is a voucher exchanged in person at a Tourist Information
  office.

## Do you need a tour?

With bus 25 or a bicycle you can reach Hellbrunn and buy the ticket at the entrance; the park and the gazebo cost nothing. Online, the boat-and-bus trip from the old town includes the palace and trick-fountain ticket with priority entry; the Salzburg Card covers the admission, bus 25 and the fortress in one price; the concert is the only way to sit inside the palace for music; and the Sound of Music tours stop at the gazebo without entering the fountains. The site says on every card which of these includes admission.

## Corrections to claims found elsewhere

- The adult ticket is 16.50 euros for the 2026 season, not the 13.50 euros many guides still print.
- The trick fountains are no longer a guided tour on a fixed schedule: since the audio guide, you
  walk them at your own pace in about 50 minutes.
- The Sound of Music was not filmed at Hellbrunn. The gazebo was moved here from Schloss
  Leopoldskron after filming; the gazebo interiors were shot on a studio set in Los Angeles.
- The gazebo is locked. Nobody dances inside it; you photograph it from the path.
- There is no 'skip-the-line Hellbrunn ticket' on the platform; the products that include admission
  are the boat trip and the Salzburg Card.
- The palace and fountains close for winter (after 1 November); only the park and the Advent market
  are open then.
