These are the 2026 season hours as published on the palace’s own hours-and-prices page, which is the source of every figure on this page and the place to check on the day. The palace describes itself as open daily, all summer long, regardless of the weather.
Last admission, and what it leaves you
Last admission is an hour before closing. The fountains take about 50 minutes with the audio guide and the palace exhibition about 30, so arriving at the last-admission hour leaves the fountains and little else. Arriving ninety minutes before closing is the more comfortable late visit, and it is also one of the two quiet windows of the day. How long the visit takes.
The park
The park and gardens are separate from the ticket: about 60 hectares, free, open 06:30–21:00 daily all year round. The Sound of Music gazebo stands near the park entrance, the Stone Theatre and the Monatsschlössl are on the hill, and there is a large adventure playground. An early-morning or evening walk is possible on any day of the year, fountains or no fountains. What is where in the park.
Winter
After 1 November the fountains and the palace close, because the water freezes, and they stay closed until the season restarts in late March. The park stays open. In the Advent weeks before Christmas a market is held in the palace courtyard and forecourt; the palace publishes the dates each year and they are not printed here. The seasons, compared.
The ticket, about sixteen and a half euros for an adult, is sold at the entrance and covers the fountains, the palace and the folk museum for the day. The boat trip and the Salzburg Card include it. Tickets and what each product adds.
The boat trip and the concert keep their own timetables
Every product on this site visits inside these hours but on its own schedule. The boat trip leaves the old-town dock at set times, spends about 30 minutes on the Salzach and ten on the double-decker bus, and gives its passengers about an hour at Hellbrunn before the bus back; reviewers would have taken more. The afternoon concert inside the palace is 45 minutes at a fixed afternoon slot and does not include admission to the fountains, so the fountains go before it or on another visit. With the Salzburg Card you pick the hour yourself, and bus 25 is covered. The concert, and how to pair it with the fountains.
Book the boat trip, admission included
Two and a half hours from the old-town dock: the Salzach, the vintage double-decker, priority entry to the fountains and the palace with the audio guide. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before.
Frequently asked questions
What time does Hellbrunn Palace open?
At 09:30 every day from 28 March to 1 November 2026. Closing is 17:30 in late March, April and October, 18:30 in May, June and September, and 19:00 in July and August, with last admission an hour before. Opening time is the quietest hour; see the best time to visit.
Are the Hellbrunn trick fountains open in winter?
No. The fountains and the palace close after 1 November because the water freezes, and reopen in late March. The park stays open 06:30–21:00, free, and an Advent market is held in the palace courtyard in the weeks before Christmas.
Are the trick fountains open when it rains?
Yes. The palace says it is open daily, all summer long, regardless of the weather, and the wetting is the point in any case. Bring something to cover a phone. What to expect from the water.
Do the tours visit outside the public hours?
No. The boat trip and the Salzburg Card use the same entrance in the same hours; the boat trip adds priority entry to the fountains. The Sound of Music tours stop at the gazebo in the free park, which is open 06:30–21:00. All five products compared.
